Trafalgar Square Apartment, Westminster, London

This duplex flat is located just off Trafalgar Square and that is where from we took our inspiration. Charles Barry designed the Square in an Italianate style. In 2002 Norman Foster pedestrianised the north side of the Square and added a central flight of steps leading down from the National Gallery to the famous fountains. This inspired us to use pelmets for the window treatment in the living room to create an effect of tall pedimented windows, so characteristic of the Italianate style. We used different shades of grey, again so reminiscent of Trafalgar Square. In order to create a warm home atmosphere we used different finishes: wood, metal coffee tables, a shagreen cabinet, leather top finish for the dining table, soft velvet finishes for the sofa and beautiful furry cushions to add an extra “comfort feeling”.
